At BRMH we have many opportunities for parents-to-be to learn about prenatal care, childbirth, and transitioning home with their newborn. We offer Childbirth Education Classes, Breastfeeding Classes, and Waterbirth Classes throughout the year in a relaxed atmosphere.

    Childbirth Education Classes
We offer parents-to-be the option of a four-week Tuesday evening series or a two-day weekend series (Friday evening & Saturday morning) to help prepare the mother and father for the experiences of pregnancy and childbirth. These classes will give you an opportunity to better understand your body, the changes that occur during pregnancy and the birthing process.

Research shows that childbirth preparation creates more positive effects and attitudes about the labor experience.

    The classes will cover:

    • Physical and emotional changes
    • Vaginal and Cesarean births
    • Birthing techniques and positioning
    • Relaxation and breathing
    • Pain relief options
    • Role of the coach
    • Birth plans and medical options
    • Unexpected outcomes
    • Transitioning home with baby
    • A tour of the hospital's Family Beginnings Department
    • Other topics you would like to discuss

    Class Schedule, Location, and Registration
The Tuesday evening Childbirth Education Series is held on four consecutive Tuesdays and begins the first Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September, and November from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The two-day Weekend Childbirth Education Series is held the second weekend of February, April, June, August, October, and December; Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

All classes are held in the first-floor conference room at the hospital.

The cost of the Tuesday evening Childbirth Education Series and the Weekend Childbirth Education Series is $40.

Advance registration is requested. Please fill out our online form at the bottom of the page or contact the OB Department at 715-284-1329.

Our class sizes are small, offering the opportunity to connect with others in a relaxed setting as you learn the secrets of nurturing a healthy family.

Parents who have already been through one or more pregnancies or births, but who are interested in a refresher class, can register to attend all or parts of these classes. Individual arrangements can also be made.

    Breastfeeding Classes
Breastfeeding is not instinctive; both the mother and infant must learn to work together to have successful feedings. This class is designed for anyone who would like to breastfeed or think they may like to breastfeed, but aren’t sure they will know how.

During our single-session Saturday class, you will learn the many benefits of breastfeeding for mom, baby, and the family.

Breastfeeding has a cost savings of over $1,000 a year when compared to formula.

Breast milk provides infants with protection against illnesses, allergies, and hospitalizations.

Breast milk contains natural nutrients that assist in brain development and are more easily digested by babies.

Breastfeeding can reduce your risk of cancer and can assist you in getting back into shape faster.

Breastfeeding is simply more convenient for mothers.

Topics include: advance planning to make breastfeeding easier for you and your baby; how milk is produced; helpful positioning techniques; partner’s involvement; managing your schedule around baby’s needs; and information about choosing a breast pump.

    Class Schedule, Location, and Registration
Classes are held on the second Saturday of January, March, May, July, September, and November from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. in the first floor conference room at the hospital. The class fee is $15. There is no charge if you are already enrolled in the current Childbirth Education Class. Advance registration is requested.  Please fill out our online form at the bottom of the page or contact the OB Department at 715-284-1329.

    Lactation Counseling
We have a board-certified lactation consultant on staff who is available to assist you with any breastfeeding problems or concerns at any point during or after your hospital stay.

    Waterbirth Class
Here’s your chance to find out more about going through labor and giving birth in water. You’ll learn about the benefits waterbirth provides including pain relief and labor enjoyment.

The classes are offered from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the second Tuesdays in January, March, May, July, September and November. Advance registration is requested.  Please fill out our online form at the bottom of the page or contact the OB Department at 715-284-1329. If expectant mothers can't attend one of the scheduled dates, special arrangements can be made by calling the OB Department.
