An echocardiogram is a safe and simple test that can be a very accurate tool for studying the heart's anatomy. It can be used to measure the overall function of the heart, to evaluate congenital heart disease or to find heart valve problems.

Sometimes referred to as a cardiac ultrasound because it uses the same technology, the test typically takes less than an hour to complete.
