A Hand Therapist works with patients who have a variety of upper extremity disorders. These may include: arthritis, fractures, amputations, tendon or nerve lacerations, or a repetitive motion injury such as tennis elbow or carpal tunnel syndrome. The Hand Therapist can evaluate and identify any problem related to the upper extremity. The Hand Therapist can effectively treat and rehabilitate the patient through such methods as:
- Edema management
- Sensory re-education
- ADL training
- Exercise instruction
- Scar management
- Desensitization
- Wound management
- Orthotic fabrication
- Job site analysis
