What is Tele-Care?
Tele-Care is a free telephone reassurance outreach service for older adults and people with disabilities. It involves a personal daily telephone contact. It is a service staffed by the volunteers of the Partners of Black River Memorial Hospital. It is a way to give others the peace of mind of knowing those they care about are all right, and to give area residents the support necessary to live independently.

Who can receive this service?
Any older adult or disabled person living in the toll-free calling area of Black River Falls can receive this free service. It is designed to support and maintain your independence, yet it provides assurance through daily personal contact.

How does it work?
A volunteer will call between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m., every day of the year, to provide a personal contact, to say hello, and to make sure the person is all right. The calls are made from the hospital.

If the person does not answer and hasn’t let the Tele-Care volunteer know that they will be gone, the volunteer will contact the person’s responder(s) and ask them to stop and check on them. If the responder cannot be reached, the volunteer will ask the police or sheriff’s department to check on the person’s welfare.

Who pays for this service?
There is no cost to participate. The telephone is staffed by volunteers who work for the joy of serving. The service is funded by the Partners of Black River Memorial Hospital.

How can the service be arranged?
If you, or someone you care about, would like to have this service, or would like more information, please call 715-284-1337 or e-mail obrienm@brmh.net.
