Per IRS regulation and our Community Health Needs Assessment, we serve Jackson County residents only for the middle school and high school experiences.


Middle School Job Shadow/Interview Experience

The 8th Grade Job Shadow/Interview Experience allows students who are interested in the healthcare field to spend time with a person who performs work which is related to the student's career interest.  This experience includes an interview with a BRMH employee, a tour of the specific department, and a tour of the hospital. The Emergency Department and Surgical Services are excluded from the 8th Grade Job Shadow/Interview experience.

High School Job Shadow Experience

This opportunity allows students to observe a department or individual for several hours with the intention of educating them on the roles and responsibilities of the position. The Emergency Department and Surgical Services are excluded from the Job Shadow experience. Students must be in 9th grade or higher to participate.

Co-op (Partnership with Black River Falls High School)

This experience allows students to observe multiple departments at BRMH before choosing one to focus on for a few weeks. The Co-Op experience is for a scholastic semester, with the students coming to the department approximately three hours a week. The Organizational Development Department works closely with the Black River Falls High School to coordinate the program and determine if students meet the criteria. 

Students interested in this experience should talk with the Black River Falls High School Co-Op coordinator to start this process. An application/selection process is followed and students must be High School Juniors or Seniors to participate.


Post-Secondary Job Shadow Experience

This opportunity allows post-secondary students to learn about health professions. The Emergency Department and Surgical Services are excluded from the Job Shadow experience. Students must be enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution to participate.

Clinical Student Programs

Black River Memorial Hospital is dedicated to offering meaningful clinical experiences while maintaining safe and excellent patient care. We offer Nursing, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Rehabilitation, Respiratory Therapy, Physician Assistant and EMT rotations. 

If you have an interest in completing a clinical rotation at Black River Memorial Hospital, have your clinical instructor email a request to or call the Organizational Development Clinical Educator at 715-284-1312. 

Once the rotation has been approved, to begin your undergraduate clinical experience, please complete the following:

  1. Read through the Alternative Orientation Program (PDF)
  2. Complete the Alternative Orientation program quiz (PDF)
  3. Obtain a copy of the following:
    Current BLS certification (Laboratory students exempt)
    State criminal background check
    Current immunizations/immunity documentation:
    • Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) : 2 does of MMR – OR – positive lab titers showing immunity for measles, mumps and rubella
    • Tuberculosis (TB): Negative TST test  within the last 12 months
    • Hepatitis B: completed 3 shot series, or positive antibody titer
    • Influenza: Updated for current flu season (Oct 1 – March 31)
    • TDap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis): updated

Marketing Internship

Each summer, we offer an unpaid marketing internship in our Marketing Department to provide experience in content marketing, event planning, video editing, and much more. We work with the student's schedule. Applications are due by March 31, 2018.
