Witnessing Outstanding Work

Week of 9/02/09

MeLee Thao, Physician Assistant
"A patient described how MeLee seemed to sense that she had more to say about her alcohol use. MeLee asked others to leave the room and created a safe place for the patient to admit her concerns with the amount of alcohol she was consuming. The patient was then able to work with our staff to arrange for a supportive treatment plan. The patient says this wouldn't have occurred had MeLee not cared for her as she did in the ED."

Jennifer Culpepper, Respiratory Care Practitioner
"Excellent communication and team work! She brought to my attention an order that needed to be updated to reflect the patient's current status/situation. It was a nursing order, not even an RT thing that needed to be updated! That's really providing wholistic care and owning the well being of the patient from a global perspective rather than from just one's own silo. Good stuff, Jen!"

Med/Surg Department
"A relative of mine stated she was amazed at the speed that nursing staff responded to call lights-- much faster than other hospitals. She said she wished she had written down all the nursing staff who cared for her mother to recognize them because each was exceptional and caring. Thank you to the Med/Surg team for doing such excellent work."

Ivy Schwantes, Nutrition Services Assistant
"It was an unusually loud Monday morning today with construction. I was walking through the reception area and observed two of three patients holding their hands across their ears. They were clearly under duress from the loud noise echoing in the entry/reception area. Before I could react, Ivy Schwantes had already contacted the construction foreman and requested hearing protection for the patients. They were provided to those affected by the noise and Ivy followed up to ensure that I was aware that a plan for mitigation was in place. Thank you, Ivy!"
