Learn more about Todd Duellman, MD, our orthopedic surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive procedures.
Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure used to see, diagnose and treat joint problems. Pencil-sized instruments are inserted into a small incision, allowing the surgeon to see the inside of a joint and determine the type of injury and treatment needed. Because of the less invasive nature of arthroscopy, it generally has a much easier recovery than traditional surgery.
Anterior hip replacement is a less invasive approach that reduces the pain and recovery time of a total hip replacement. Because the surgeon approaches the hip from the front of the joint, and not the side (lateral approach) or the back (posterior approach), the muscles around the hip, pelvis and femur do not need to be detached or disturbed. This makes rehabilitation quicker and easier, less time in the hospital for patients and allows for a smaller scar.
