Middle School Job Shadow/Interview Experience

The 8th Grade Job Shadow/Interview Experience allows students who are interested in the healthcare field to spend time with a person who performs work that is related to the student's career interest. This experience includes an interview with a BRMH employee, a tour of the specific department, and a tour of the hospital. The Emergency Department and Surgical Services are excluded from the 8th Grade Job Shadow/Interview experience.

At the end of the 8th Grade Job Shadow/Interview Experience, the participant will:

  1. Identify the types of services provided by the interviewee and/or the specific department

  2. List three (3) satisfying aspects of a healthcare career

  3. Understand the basic education preparation required for the careers discussed

Please fill out the form below so we can start setting up your Job Shadow/Interview Experience. Make sure you put your top 3 choices of departments and dates/times you are available. Having an incomplete form can slow down this process.

8th Grade Scheduling and Inquiry Form

These are the questions that are in your "Black River Falls Middle School 8th Grade Job Shadow Packet". If you want to ask additional questions, please email the additional questions to Organizational Development at least 2 business days before your job shadow/interview appointment.

Middle School Job Shadow/Interview Questions

Co-op (Partnership with Black River Falls High School)

This experience allows students to observe multiple departments at BRMH before choosing one to focus on for a few weeks. The Emergency Department and Surgical Services are excluded from the Co-op experience. The Co-op experience is for a scholastic semester, with the students coming to the department approximately five hours a week. The Organizational Development Department works closely with the Black River Falls High School to coordinate the program and determine if students meet the criteria.

Students interested in this experience should talk with the Black River Falls High School Co-op coordinator to start this process. An application/selection process is followed and students must be High School Juniors or Seniors to participate.

Job Shadow Experience

This opportunity allows students who are considering majoring in a healthcare-related field to observe a department or individual for several hours to learn about the roles and responsibilities of the position/department. Job shadow experiences are typically 8 hours or less, but not to exceed 40 hours. The Emergency Department and Surgical Services are excluded from the Job Shadow experience. Students must be in 9th -12th grade in high school or enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution to participate.

Please complete the following:

  1. Read the Alternative Orientation Program Handbook
  2. Complete the Job Shadow Application
  3. If under the age of 18, complete the Minor Student Job Shadow Parent/Guardian Authorization
  4. Complete the Background Check
  5. Print out a copy of your immunization records from your physician's office or state database, such as the Wisconsin Immunization registration. If you will be at BRMH from October through March, you will need a record of a current influenza vaccination included in your record.
  6. Send all above documentation to organizationaldevelopment@brmh.net or mail to:
