COST OF CARE

How much will my care cost?

Every patient and their needs are different. The health of the patient and insurance coverage will impact how much the patient will have to pay for their care out of pocket.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Guideline:

In 2018, CMS announced updated guidelines for hospitals to comply with the Transparency Requirement of the Affordable Care Act. Hospital price transparency helps Americans know the cost of a hospital item or service before receiving it.

Starting January 1, 2021, each hospital operating in the United States will be required to provide clear, accessible pricing information online about the items and services they provide in two ways:

  1. As a comprehensive machine-readable file with all items and services
  2. In a display of shoppable services in a consumer-friendly format.

This information will make it easier for consumers to shop and compare prices across hospitals and estimate the cost of care before going to the hospital.

COST ESTIMATES

Do you want to know how much a procedure, test, or exam might cost you before you make your decision? Most people want to know the cost of their medical services, but don’t know how to access the information. Knowing the cost of a service upfront helps you to make informed decisions about your health and care. In recent years, hospitals have introduced programs to provide easier payment methods for patients. One program is called Point-of-Service Payment, and it consists of patients paying their portion of the bill at the time of service.
