MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN OR MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST

Black River Memorial Hospital is currently accepting applications for two full-time opening as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) in our busy Lab Department at our Critical Access Hospital.   This positions open are as follows:

  • This benefited position is full-time, work 7 days on, have 7 days off on night shift. 
  • This benefited position is full-time, pm shift, Monday through Friday with a rotating weekend and holiday schedule.

The MT/MLT collects and processes specimens to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease and accurate and timely reporting of test results.  In addition, it oversees a variety of technical activities and individual section responsibilities to ensure efficient operation of the department.  The ideal candidate for this position will be able to work in a fast-paced environment, have excellent technical and customer service skills and be team-oriented.

WOUND CARE CENTER REGISTERED NURSE

Join our new Wound Care Center at Black River Memorial Hospital.  We are currently accepting applications for a per diem Registered Nurse.  Hours for this position will vary depending on staff and patient needs.  The RN will be responsible for coordinating clinical activities of the Wound Care Center including: planning, implementing, evaluating and providing comprehensive patient care.  This RN position is also responsible for managing available nursing resources and collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to provide quality, cost effective patient care. 

Essential Duties:

  • Provides case management to a group of patients providing specific assessments according to protocol and procedures, clinical competence in procedural skills, treatments, and patient/caregiver educations related to wound care management, and acts as a patient advocate in delivery and coordination of patient care.
  • Collaborates with Wound Care Center Coordinator and Medical Director to achieve Would Care Center quality indicators.
  • Provides appropriate infection control measures.
  • Documents according to established standards.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science, Associates degree in Nursing or Diploma, RN. BSN preferred.
  • Current licensed Wisconsin RN.
  • Wound Care Certification preferred but not required. If not certified, candidate will be required to obtain wound care certification within one year of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

MED/SURG REGISTERED NURSE

Black River Memorial Hospital has an opening for a Registered Nurse in our Med/Surg Department.  This is a full-time, 72 hours per pay period, night shift position.

The Registered Nurse plans and provides comprehensive patient care as well as manages available nursing resources and collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to provide quality, cost-effective patient care.

Essential Duties Include:

  • Evaluates patient assessments and responses to interventions and takes appropriate action according to established standards.
  • Accurately and effectively utilizes the patient acuity system to anticipate changes in patient care needs.
  • Provides individualized patient and family focused care throughout the patient’s stay.
  • Initiates effective discharge and referral plans on admission utilizing appropriate hospital and community resources.
  • Participates in patient and family education as evidenced by teaching documentation with appropriate resources.

Educational Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science, Associates degree in Nursing or Diploma RN. BSN preferred.
  • BLS and ACLS within 1- year.
  • NRP (OB and Resource)

CLINIC CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT

The Certified Medical Assistant serves the patient by assessing their needs and answering their questions. The CMA takes vitals, assists in patient education and referrals, schedules diagnostics, and administers medication. They work hand-in-hand with our provider toward our mission of serving patients with excellence.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintains standards of excellence in accordance with standards set forth by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, the Joint Commission, National Committee for Quality Assurance, and the policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Performs various functions in the Clinic, including screening telephone calls related to patient care and evaluates according to the protocols set forth by the provider. Discusses with the provider when indicated.
  • Utilizes on-line scheduling system to schedule patients for follow-up appointments in the Clinic. Makes necessary contacts to schedule patients for follow-up tests, procedures, or appointments in other departments and/or other health care facilities. Schedules tests/procedures with appropriate departments and hospital admissions. Prepares and orders diagnostic tests including x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory tests according to provider orders and informs patient with instructions and follow-up.
  • Administers medication and immunizations and performs lab draws per organizational procedure as directed by the provider.

Educational Qualifications:

  • One to two years’ experience in a clinic setting is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or able to complete within three months of hire.
  • Certification through AAMA, CCMA, AMT (registered), ARMA, or NCMA is required within three months of hire.
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures, equipment, and computer systems preferred.

Black River Memorial Hospital is currently seeking a Home-Based Services Biller in our Homecare/Hospice Department (B-Home Service and Supply Department).  This benefited position is part-time, Monday through Friday, 64 hours per pay period.  This position is primarily responsible for the process of billing for the Home Based Services programs in a timely and accurate manner by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties:

  • Reviews UB-04, HCFA 1500 and electronic billing systems for accuracy collaborating with Home Based Services staff as needed.
  • Demonstrates thorough knowledge and understanding of billing policies and procedures for Home Based Services.
  • Receipts payments and assures proper application according to established standards.
  • Assures patients files in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) are updated. Runs weekly, monthly and yearly reports through EMR.
  • Processes self pay, patient statements, and bills for Home Based Services.

Educational Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Associate Degree in Accounting or Business preferred.
  • Six months related experience or training.
  • Proficiently uses computer, computer billing programs, Microsoft Word and Excel and calculator.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

HOMECARE/HOSPICE HOME HEALTH AIDE

Black River Memorial Hospital has an immediate opening for a Home Health Aide in our Homecare/Hospice Department.  This is a part-time position, working 56 hours per pay period and is fully benefitted.   This position monitors the health status of an individual with disabilities or illness, and address their health-related needs, such as changing bandages, dressing wounds, or administering medication. In addition, it provides assistance with routine healthcare tasks or activities of daily living, such as feeding, bathing, toileting, or ambulation. May also help with tasks such as preparing meals, doing light housekeeping, and doing laundry depending on the patient's abilities.   

Essential Duties:

  • Maintain records of patient care, condition, progress, or problems to report and discuss observations with offsite licensed nursing staff, physical therapist, occupational therapist, or speech therapist.
  • Provides patients with help moving in and out of beds, baths, wheelchairs, or automobiles and with dressing and grooming.
  • Cares for patients by changing bed linens, washing and ironing laundry, cleaning, or assisting with their personal care.
  • Recognizes changes in signs and symptoms and promptly reports patient’s condition to the registered nurse (RN) or therapist.
  • Performs technical nursing skills such as medication reminders, check vital signs, directing patients in prescribed exercises, and simple wound care under the direct supervision of the RN/Therapist.

 Educational Qualifications:

  • Current certification by the WI State Board of Nursing and meets the personnel, education and training requirements of CFR 484.4 for home health aides. 
  • Experience with Hospice/End of Life Care preferred (for hospice program).
  • BLS within 3 months of employment. 
  • Must have valid Wisconsin driver's license, proof of insurability and reliable transportation.
  • Basic reading and comprehension skills.
