Steve Smith’s family has a yearly tradition of traveling to LaCrosse to see the Rotary lights. As a hospice patient with Black River Memorial Hospital’s B-Home Services and Supplies, Steve wasn’t sure he would be able to travel this past season. When the hospice team learned of his wish to take his family to the Rotary lights, they wanted to help make his wish come true. They knew that Kathy’s Fund could help. Kathy’s Fund is a designated fund for hospice patients to provide last wishes and unmet needs for families that may not otherwise be able to do so.
On December 5, 2019, Steve, his daughter Stephanie, her husband Gary, and their four children, Isabel, Alex, Jacob, and Madison, took a bus to see the Rotary Lights. Stephanie said, “It was so great that we were all able to ride together. The bus driver was so kind to take us slowly through the lights and my kids were all able to be close to their grandpa.” She added, “My oldest daughter, Isabel, has gone to this event for the past eighteen years and has great memories. Our family cannot thank BRMH hospice and Kathy’s Fund enough for giving us this special time with Dad.”
B-Home Services and Supplies Director, Dena Graff, said, “We provide many services for Jackson County residents to help keep them at home. Some of those services have included haircuts in the home, anniversary and birthday gifts, organizing a special date night and family train trips. We are so grateful to have Kathy’s Fund to help people like Steve and his family share some quality time together.”
